After a strong start by the Lakeview Bulldogs, the Howland Tigers prevailed with a Friday’s 69-54 win behind 39 points from Alex Ochman and Mackenzie Maze combined in the Toni Ross Tournament.
In the second quarter, Howland (1-0, 1-0 All-American Conference, Red Tier) closed the gap. After being down as much as nine points, Howland trailed by just one point, 30-29, at halftime. Despite 12 first-half turnovers, the Tigers looked to be in control.
In the second half, Howland continued to make life difficult for the Bulldogs. Lakeview yet again scored just nine points as it did in the second quarter and Howland led 43-39 at the end of three quarters.
In the fourth quarter, Lakeview was trying too hard to score and that helped the Tigers take a big win.
Howland plays at 7:30 p.m. against South Range in the Championship game of the Toni Ross Tournament.
