On Saturday, December 16th, the Howland Middle School Wrestling Team traveled to Canfield to compete against 13 area teams and were eventually crowned “Champions” of the South Range Holiday Classic Wrestling Tournament. The Tigers dominated the competition sending 11 out of 15 wrestlers into the final round to earn a place on the podium.
Tournament champions were: Carter Mock, Joe Goldberg, Matt Woomer, Rian Spangler, Gage Gibson, and Trevor Diegan
In 2nd place: Ethan Snyder and Kole Tarary
In 3rd place: Jake Baxter
In 4th place: Mason Canter and Aiden Helsel
Four Tiger wrestlers, Carter Mock, Joe Goldberg, Matt Woomer, and Gage Gibson had the notable accomplishment of pinning every opponent they faced in the tournament.
Other wrestlers who won matches by pinning their opponents were: Mason Canter, Evan Ramsey, Nolan Rudicell, Ethan Snyder, Robert Hardy, Rian Spangler, Delano McCann, Aiden Helsel, Logan Merriman, Jake Baxter, Kole Tarary, Noah McGovern, and Trevor Diegan.
Carter Mock and Jake Baxter were named team BAGUBA’s for their composed relentlessness.
Finally, Howland’s own Matt Woomer was selected by the other teams’ coaches to be the “Tournament MVP” since Matt outclassed and pinned each of his opponents in the first period.
