Tigers News · Girls Soccer earns third win in a row!

The Howland Girls soccer team beat Poland on Saturday September 12 at home by a 2-0 margin.

Kalliopi Gentis got things going in the first half scoring off of a nice chip from a free kick with the assist from senior Jenna Gebhardt. The score would remain 1-0 at the half.

In the second half the Lady Tigers possessed the ball well and completed a nice sequence with Rylie Daniluk providing a nice pass for Malina Andamasaris who calmly slotted the ball past the keeper for her first goal of the season.

Jillian McMurray recorded her second shut out for the season as the Howland girls put this one away.

Their record now improves to 2-3-1 as they get ready for their second conference match up on Monday September 14 against the Warren Harding Raiders.

The Howland Lady Tigers defeated the Raiders at Warren Harding in two well played matches.

The junior varsity team were up first coming out strong with a few nice opportunities on goal early on but could not get past keeper Renn Rohrer who made some nice saves to keep the Tigers at bay. This was not to last however as senior Madeline Scott converted off a corner kick from senior classmate Olivia Hutchings at the 16 minute mark. Shortly after Kalliopi Liakaris made it 2-0 capitalizing off of a punt from goalkeeper Isabella Moosally. Just four minutes later, Laikaris was brought down inside the box and Sara Stiles stepped up to finish from the penalty spot to go in 3-0 at half time.

In the second half Hutchings and Scott connected off another corner kick to go up 4-0. Taira Weimer would round off the scoring off another corner from Olivia. Moosally recorded her fifth shut out with a couple key saves for the junior varsity to finish the game with a 5-0 win.

The varsity game followed with a similar result. The girls possessed the ball well and after a few narrow misses, finally converted with junior Ryley Andamasaris finishing off a nice feed from Kalliopi Gentis. Gentis would add her own with a beautiful shot from just outside the box with Ryley returning the favor on the assist. Senior Megan Jupina would add a third two minutes after, finishing on the back post off a great service from Rylie Daniluk that rounded off the scoring for the first half at 3-0.

In the second half, the Lady Raiders came out pressing and continued giving a spirited effort as the Lady Tigers found themselves playing at a slower pace having the lead. They would pick things up towards the end when Kalliopi Liakaris instantly finished with literally her first touch on the ball after another nice feed from Daniluk. Liakaris would add a second, off another assist from Ryley Andamasaris, to finish with two goals in her varsity debut. Meanwhile, Jillian McMurray was again solid throughout, notching her third shutout win on the season to conclude the night with another 5-0 Tiger road win.

The Tigers overall record now improves to 3-3-1 and 2-1 in conference play. They will face a tougher match next against Cardinal Mooney on Wednesday, September 16 at 6pm at Howland Stadium.
